Wyatt was born with a Bilateral Cleft Lip & Palate.  Wyatt‘s mom shared with us that she came to the Institute as a new mother, very ignorant to the world of facial differences and very scared. The entire staff at the Institute was not only a compassionate group of people but the most skilled in their profession. Everyone took the time and had the patience to explain every aspect of her son’s treatment, to both help her understand and teach her to assist in his wonderful outcome.

During the first six months of treatment, Wyatt had to wear a molding device to help ready his cleft for surgery.  The visits to Drs. Brecht, Grayson and the most talented support staff allowed her to be both comforted and confident that her son was in the best hands possible.

At six-months-old it was time for Dr. Court Cutting to perform his surgical magic. The transformation of Wyatt’s face was unbelievable; he had come such a long way since birth. In addition to his cleft repair, Dr. Joseph Bernstein was also giving Wyatt ear tubes to improve his poor hearing caused by the cleft.  After a long surgery, Dr. Cutting came out to inform us that all went well and that Wyatt had done beautifully.  What a relief to hear those words!

Two and a half years, three surgeries, and one very big, smart, rambunctious, handsome boy later, I can say that this experience has been a humbling, educational, and spiritual one. It taught me to take the time to appreciate life, with all its up and downs, and to be thankful for the wonderful people who offer love and support to others in need.

   I have to say…. I am good friends with Chris and Wyatt and have known them for some time now. I commend you on the work you have done to this little boy. You have really changed his life for the better. Good Work.
