When Nefertari’s mom was having a routine sonogram, it was discovered that her daughter would be born with a cleft lip which is a large opening between the nose and the lip.  Nefertari’s mother immediately sought out the IRPS team and went through prenatal counseling to prepare herself for the birth of her child.

When Nefertari arrived, her family learned that in addition to the cleft she was also born with Tetralogy of Fallot and Pulmonary Stenosis, a complex cardiac heart condition. Even before her cleft lip and nose surgery at 6 months, Nefertari underwent 2 successful open heart surgeries.

Nefertari’s transformation was incredible; her family said that they barely recognized her after her surgery.  For the next 6 weeks Nefertari was followed by the medical team at the IRPS and her mother said ”that throughout their entire experience they were treated with respect, compassion and lots of love”. The family is forever grateful and appreciative for the incredible care they received by the entire IRPS team and especially to the psychosocial team for their unconditional support.
