What goes on at the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery?

When a child is born with, or acquires, a craniofacial condition, there is much more than surgery that needs to take place. The IRPS approaches each case individually with separate “conferences,” each specializing in one area of facial malformation.

A child is initially examined and medical history is taken before being seen by the Institute Team. This team of medical and mental health professionals addresses each child’s unique condition and designs a treatment plan taking into consideration the child’s medical and psychosocial factors. These multidisciplinary teams consist of specialists in the fields of plastic surgery, genetics, neurology, nursing, otolaryngology, orthodontics, prosthodontics, psychology, and speech pathology.

This team approach enables every child to receive world-class treatment custom-tailored to fit their specific needs.

Surgeons, residents and medical students from around the world visit the Institute to observe and study the latest less invasive reconstructive techniques developed and used in the operating rooms of the IPRS.

NFFR funds these special programs within IRPS. Each one focuses on a particular type of treatment that may be offered to support our kids.
