Michael Kubin
While some people talk the talk, Michael Kubin walked the walk. Actually he ran, biked, and swam–recently doing all three to raise money and awareness for the NFFR.
On September 12, 2010, Michael participated in the 31st annual Mighty Hamptons Long Island Triathlon Tour. It is an Olympic-distance course which starts with a 1.5 kilometer (.93 mile) swim, then a 40k (23.8m) bike ride, ending with a 10k (6.2m) run, all set along the beautiful background of Sag Harbor, Long Island.
Michael, who turns 60 this January, has been in the media industry for the last 30 years and has successfully managed a number of entrepreneurial ventures.[1] Before this event he had never participated in a triathlon, beginning his preparation in April of this year. Over the following 5 months Michael trained 5 or 6 days a week in order to prepare his body for the challenging physical test he was about to face.
Michael competed in the triathlon not just for himself but also to bring awareness and support to a worthy cause, though at first he hadn’t identified which one. Then he spoke with his friend Fred Friedman, a longtime member of the NFFR Board of Trustees. Mr. Friedman introduced Michael to our cause, and he knew immediately it was worth the effort. He saw that, like most non-profits, we ache for greater visibility and we cherish every dollar given to us.
During his months of preparation Michael collected contributions on behalf of the NFFR and by the time of the event he raised over $22,000 in donations, money which will go to improving the lives of hundreds of patients at the Institute.
We at the NFFR could not be more proud and grateful for Michael’s achievements. He demonstrated that one person can make a big difference in the lives of many others by putting his mind and body to work.
