NFFR’s Family Apartment
NFFR now leases a studio apartment on First Avenue to provide convenient, low-cost housing for IRPS patients and their families. The apartment is fully furnished, with comfortable seating, a sofa bed, and a trundle day bed — complete with sheets, towels, kitchenware, wireless Internet, and cable TV. Shelves line the wall, filled with books for children and adults, board games, and videos for family viewing. The apartment is a haven where IRPS patients and families can relax, read a book, watch a movie, enjoy a meal, or unwind with a family game night.

For patients who live outside New York City and need to stay overnight while in the City for appointments at the Institute or surgery, the apartment provides a handy place to stay, directly across the street from NYU Langone Medical Center and just around the corner from the new NFFR office. The apartment has provided a home base for many IRPS families, for a night or two, or for weeks, depending on the need of the family. The family apartment is one more way that the NFFR, through its Newman Family Support Center, provides assistance to the Institute’s patients and families.
As recent visitors to the apartment put it:
It was really a pleasure meeting the team from NFFR. I want to say a big thank you for allowing us to stay in the apartment. It was like home away from home. Coming from overseas and not being familiar with Manhattan, it was really a pleasure being able to stay there, knowing that we only had to cross the street for Timothy’s appointment. I look forward to staying there again in the future. Timothy enjoyed the books and videos and we both appreciated the other amenities that came with the apartment. We thank you again and really appreciate all that you and the Foundation have been doing for families like ours.
